Project

Forest Dunes Golf Club

Scope

10-hole Short Course

Location

Roscommon, Michigan, USA

In early 2019, Rhebb & Johns designed and built a new 10-hole, par 3, short course for Forest Dunes Golf Club in Michigan.  The objective was to create golf holes that both test and entertain skilled golfers, all while still being fun and enjoyable for young children and beginners.  Lew Thompson, owner of Forest Dunes at the time, requested the duo design golf holes that both he and his grandchildren could enjoy together, not to mention all the other resort guests as well.

The course, named Bootlegger, will play amongst the towering oaks and pines as it playfully ascends to the highest point of the Forest Dunes property.  The views of the property from the top are long and the holes will lend themselves to a variety of short game shot-making possibilities.  A great environment for a relaxing tune-up of one’s short game, or a fun competitive match amongst groups of friends.

Bootlegger was also designed to be reserved to host private functions or events.  When such is the case, the course can be set-up and played as a free-form golf experience.  This means cross-country golf, choosing your own adventure from one hole to another.

The new Bootlegger short course is scheduled to have a soft opening in the summer of 2020, and fully open for play during the 2021 season.

What they’re saying about Forest Dunes

The Bootlegger course at Forest Dunes might be the best undiscovered short course in America
